United Therapeutics Unisphere

United Therapeutics’ Unisphere project, completed in 2018, is currently the largest Net-Zero office building in the world.

Located on the Silver Spring campus, the Unisphere has no carbon footprint and has been studied by development teams throughout the world. The innovative project contains 135,000 sq.ft. of office space and amenities, and uses solar, geothermal, and other sustainable energy utilization features to achieve net-zero design.

Unisphere Annex

United Therapeutics has submitted a plan - Unisphere Expansion – Biohealth Priority Campus Plan – to redevelop the site of the former Hampton Inn/Homewood Suites at 8728 Colesville Road, with an expansion of the existing Unisphere at 1000 Spring Street, to include new and relocated business functions. Like the Unisphere, the new building will be net-zero for carbon emissions and use similar technologies such as solar, geothermal sources, and renewable mass timber framing.

Demolition of the hotel has begun, but there is no timeline yet for new construction.
